PARISH FESTIVAL: The OLV Parish Festival is Sunday, Oct. 14th at the Victoria Community Center with the fun starting at 11 a.m. There will be games for the children, great food and an auction full of items that you won’t want to miss and items to bid on that the students have worked on in art class. The school booth will also have items your student has made in their classroom. Please remember to send the sodas and water needed for the snack bar. For any other information, please call Becki Redding at 575-3654.
RAFFLE TICKETS: The parish festival raffle ticket contest is in full swing. There are individual cash prizes for the 1st – 6th place top sellers, free dress days and if everyone in your class sells at least one book the class will receive an ice cream party. All tickets and money are due in by Thursday, October 11th. Please make sure your complete name and grade is on the envelope so you will receive credit for your sale. Let’s make this the best year ever for the raffle!
BINGO:
The Bingo committee is in need of donated prizes for the bingo games at the Parish Festival on Sunday, October 14, 2007. Groceries, toys and small plants are good prizes but any type of item will be accepted; we will mix and match to make one prize if necessary. Cash donations for the purchase of items are also accepted. Items can be dropped off at the ECC front desk. If you have any questions please call Jennifer Garza @ 652-3046.
PARKING LOT PROCEDURES:
It has come to our attention that many parents are parking on Mesquite Street instead of pulling into our parking lots to pick up students at dismissal time. There are no patrols on Mesquite Street and we cannot ensure the safety of the students crossing the street or going to the cars. Following proper pickup procedures will better ensure the safety of our students. We appreciate your cooperation during the morning drop-off on Laurent Street. Thank you for your patience.
SCHOOL PICTURES:
The proofs from our school pictures have gone home with the students. Please make your choices from the picture packages, make payment payable to Pat Mercer Photography and send back to school by Friday, October 5th. A late charge of $5.00 will be added after the due date. Retakes requested by parents are charged a fee unless there is a flaw or the child had their eyes closed.
Group photos of each grade will be taken on Tuesday, October 9th. Envelopes for the group photos will be sent home Monday, October 1st. These order forms must be turned back to the school on or before Tuesday, October 9th.
USED COAT AND JACKET COLLECTION: The second grade class will be collecting used coats and jackets in all sizes during the month of October. Please send them to school with your student and help us warm up those less fortunate in Victoria.
CARNIVAL AND BARNDANCE: The OLV Fall Carnival and Barn dance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27th in the school cafeteria and gym. The Carnival begins at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria and is fun for all ages. The Barn dance will be held in the school gym from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. If you are able to help, or need more information, please call Karen Bigham at 572-8889 or Jodi Kurtz at 576-5388. This is a fun evening for the whole family to enjoy.
LIFE CHAIN: On Sunday, October 7th, there will be a Life Chain from 2:30-3:30 p.m. along Navarro Street between Sam Houston/Magruder and Loop 463. Please join hundreds of other Christians in Victoria as they hold up signs proclaiming the evil of abortion. Signs can be picked up at the old and new HEB, and at Hall Electric. You may stand at any spot along the route. PLEASE STAND UP FOR ONE HOUR IN DEFENSE OF LIFE.
BLESSING OF THE PETS:
We will celebrate the feast of St. Francis with the blessing of the pets on Thursday, October 4 at 3:00 p.m. We will meet on the football field to bless the pets. Students are welcome to bring a picture of their pet or their parents may bring their animal to the field just before 3:00. Students and parents can meet on the field. Dogs must be on a leash and cats in a pet carrier.
ACCELERATED READER:
The Accelerated Reader “New to You” book sale which helps to raise funds for the AR store will be held in November. If you have any “gently” used books, appropriate for our students, please send them to the school to help a good cause.
You may drop them off at either the main school office or the Early Childhood Building, or you may contact Deanna Chang @ 578-7012 or Mary Rivera
@ 575-6671. We are also planning our first AR store and have added some new choices! Be prepared with your points because you may just be one of the lucky students who has enough points to purchase some of the new items. We have even added WebKinz to our store!
KEEP READING AND WE WILL SEE YOU AT THE AR STORE!
DAY CARE NEWS: Just a reminder that the Day Care will be open on Wednesday Oct. 24th when students are dismissed at 1:00 p.m. Students who are not picked up promptly after the early dismissal will be sent to Day Care and parents will be charged. The Day Care will also be open on Oct. 25th (free day) from 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. If your child will be in Day Care on the 25th please notify the Day Care by Monday, Oct. 22nd so they can get a lunch count.
