F.Y.I.

Please keep a careful eye on the monthly calendars that are sent home with the newsletters.  These calendars show all the important events including the early dismissal dates for that month.  This year we will generally have 2 early dismissal dates per month due to preparation for school accreditation in 2008-2009.   You may also visit the OLV website at http://www.ourladyvictory.org/  for updated calendar information.  Please notice that in the lower left corner of the home page is a place to subscribe to our e-mail notification system.  By doing so, you will receive reminders of special events going on, and updates or changes to the calendar.

SCRIP NEWS:

OLV School is grateful to all the parents who supported our SCRIP Program last year.  For those of you new to OLV, purchasing SCRIP cards is a great way to reduce your tuition and help the school out.  SCRIP Cards are purchased at the OLV Office and the Early Childhood Building.  You will earn ½ of the percentage of the sale of the SCRIP (gift) card and that percentage is deducted from your tuition, the school receives the other ½ percentage.  For example, we earn 3% or $3.00 for every $100 HEB card we sell; you will receive a tuition credit of $1.50 and the school receives the other $1.50.   Some stores give an even higher percentage!  We keep in stock many of the local stores so you can stop in any day to purchase your cards.  We can also order cards for out-of-town stores!  You can get a complete store listing at glscrip.com.

PTC NEWS:

CHOIR TIME IS COMING:

The OLV School Choir is looking forward to another exciting award-winning year.  Our choir is a non-auditioning choir, which means all that is needed to participate is enthusiasm, dedication, and a love for singing.  We meet every Tuesday after school until 4:45 p.m.  Choir is open to all 5th - 8th graders.  Even those in athletics, pep squad and cheerleading are eligible.  An informational letter and sign up form can be gotten from the music room.  The OLV Choir will perform both semesters at church and around the Victoria community.  We also plan to travel once again to competition in the spring.  Come add your voice to ours!

OLV CALENDAR CLUB:

Parishioners have received the entry forms for the 2007/08 OLV Calendar Club.  Our drawings this year will award SCRIP Gift Cards to local merchants.  Entry into the club is $25, and you can win from $50 to $250, PLUS, you can win more than once!!!  The club runs from September 1 through May 31.  Proceeds benefit the Our Lady of Victory Education Assistance Fund.  Stop by the school office if you would like to join the fun!!!

BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION:

Box Tops for Education is a program sponsored by General Mills that allows the school to earn ten cents for each Box top we send in.  Box tops are available on many products.  Last year the school earned over $1,000.00 - those box tops really added up!!

Last Spring we held a "Boy vs. Girl" Contest to determine who "ruled" for a day.  It was a lot of fun to watch the girls "be the bosses" for the day.  We will hold another "Boy vs. Girl" Contest for the month of September, to see if the girls can do it again, or if the boys will be more determined this year!  Simply send in your box tops in a baggie or envelope marked "boy" or "girl" and we will keep track of all those we receive.  Please do not send in expired box-tops!  We will give periodic updates during the month to keep the competition going!  The winning gender will receive a FREE DRESS day, as well as "rule" over the losing gender for that day.

You may also earn money for the school through the Box Tops for Education program by making purchases online through http://www.boxtops4education.com/.    Check out all options at the website above.

REMINDERS:

  • Remember to read the Parent-Student Handbook that has gone home with your oldest student and sign and return the "Acceptance of Terms" attachment.  It is very important that everyone reads and understands the school rules in order to have a happy and successful school year.
  • Children, who are not picked up right after school, need to wait in front of the school office.  At 4:00 any remaining children will be sent to daycare and parents will be charged.  Students are not allowed to wait unsupervised after school, before an athletic event.
  • With this newsletter you will find a "Parents' Game Plan for Good Health" Booklet.  Inside this booklet you will find coupons, recipes and helpful hints.  On page 3 you will find a coupon for 25 bonus points, please cut out this coupon and send it back to school.  Please remember to save and send in your Campbell's Soup Labels throughout the year, we redeem these labels for merchandise and supplies for the school.   You can visit their website at labelsforeducation.com for a complete listing of all products included in the program.

  • In addition, the school accepts used cell phones and empty printer ink cartridges.  We are able to send these in for recycling. Last year the school received $717.00.  If you work in an office or have connections to any of the plants or high-volume print businesses, we would appreciate you saving these items for our school.

SPORTS SCHEDULES:

Check this newsletter for the 2007 Football and Volleyball Schedules and make plans to come out and support our teams!!  GO EAGLES!!!  They are also on the webpage.

  NJHS CONCESSIONS:

Beginning September 5, 2007, the National Junior Honor Society will begin after-school concession sales on every Wednesday in the Cafeteria.  All items are 50¢, and include soda or candy items.  Proceeds benefit the NJHS, and they thank you for your support!

SCHOOL INSURANCE:

The school has purchased school-time only accident insurance for each student through the Archdiocese of San Antonio, underwritten by Student Assurance Services, Inc.  This insurance covers any injuries the student may receive while at school or at a school related activity.  See attached explanation of the policy.  Please read it so that you have an understanding of what is covered.  If an injury occurs, you must obtain a form from the school office and submit it after your primary insurance company has returned an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to you.  If you have any questions please call the school office.

OFFICE DEPOT BACK TO SCHOOLS

Throughout 2007, every time parents, students and school supporters shop at Office Depot, we would appreciate your giving them Our Lady of Victory School's name or ID Number 70101780 as you ring up your purchase.  We will then earn 5% credit to use in the store for needed school or office supplies.  Thanks.
